Police: Burlington man arrested for assault, robbery

BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – Police in Burlington say a man is now behind bars after threatening someone with a knife.

It happened just before 9:30 p.m. Wednesday on South Winooski Avenue.

Police responded to reports of an assault.

They found that Shelly Sanders, 41, of Burlington, approached someone with a knife, got into a verbal and physical fight, and sprayed the victim with mace while trying to steal their purse.

Sanders was taken into custody about a half hour later on North Winooski Avenue after a short chase on foot.

He faces charges including first-degree aggravated domestic assault and assault and robbery.
