$100 million going toward N.Y. housing projects

ALBANY, N.Y. (WCAX) – New homes could be on the way to your community.

That’s thanks to $100 million earmarked for projects across New York.

Projects in certified pro-housing communities, of which there are 30 in the north country, could see some of that money.

Governor Kathy Hochul says increasing the housing stock can be a game-changer for millennials looking for work or older New Yorkers looking to downsize in their community.

“We’ve seen so many people forced out of their communities, even where they grew up. You grow up, you have your own family, you want to go back to maybe the same neighborhood, the same schools that you had a chance to grow up in, and somehow the world is different,” said Gov. Hochul.

A total of 270 communities are certified ‘pro-housing’ and are eligible for some of that funding.

Hochul said it is not just affordable housing, but things like a starter home for new families.
