Procession for slain border patrol agent to be held in Burlington

BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – A police procession is being held for agent David Maland on Thursday.

Law enforcement from around the state will escort the hearse carrying agent David ‘Chris’ Maland from the UVM Medical Center morgue to a Burlington funeral home.

According to Vermont News First journalist Mike Donoghue, as many as 300 law enforcement vehicles will accompany Maland around 10 a.m. on Thursday.

As of early Thursday morning, we aren’t sure of the route from the morgue to the funeral home on Shelburne Road in Burlington.

However, people in the area should expect a swath of law enforcement during that time.

While Maland lived in Newport, he grew up in the Midwest. On the Minnesota statehouse floor, his cousin Representative Krista Knudsen called for a moment of silence and said Maland wanted to make a difference.

“Chris was an incredible man and will be missed dearly. I am grateful for his service and I know he was very proud of it… We will cherish his memories and mourn his sacrifice… Until we meet again, godspeed, you good and faithful servant,” said Knudsen.

“He was a devoted agent who served with honor and bravery. He had a tremendous respect and pride for the work he did; he truly embodied service over self,” said Maland’s family in a statement to the Associated Press.

Stick with WCAX as we cover the procession with a look at the law enforcement escort from around the city.
