Rutland approves district plan for downtown projects

RUTLAND, Vt. (WCAX) – More development is on its way to the marble city.

Rutland’s board of aldermen approved a tax increment financing – or TIF – district plan.

The 20-year district plan focuses on two developments in Rutland.

The first is a seven-story hotel on Carter Street including 26 residential units, brownfield remediation, and water, sewer, and stormwater upgrades.

The other project is the redevelopment of the Lynda Lee factory into mixed-income housing.

Vermont’s Economic Progress Council is expected to approve the plan this spring with a groundbreaking in 2026.
