Vermont traffic deaths declined in 2024

MONTPELIER, Vt. (WCAX) – Vermont traffic deaths declined in 2024 for the second year in a row.

State data shows there were 59 deaths due to motor vehicle crashes. That included 44 drivers, seven passengers, six pedestrians, and two bicyclists.

The number of fatal crashes has remained about the same over the last six years, with an average of around 60 and the average number of driver deaths is around 64.

In the last five years, 2022 saw the most crash-related fatalities at 76.

Officials say that just over half of those who died were not wearing seatbelts.
