Vt. man accused of making serious threats by mail

WESTFIELD, Vt. (WCAX) – Police say a Vermont man made serious threats by mail, prompting an extreme risk protection order from the state.

Vermont state police say Cornell Letourneau, 75, of Westfield, sent a letter in the mail to two other Westfield residents threatening to kill or seriously injure them.

Because of how serious the threats were, a Supreme Court judge granted an extreme risk protection order that prohibits Letourneau from buying, having or receiving guns or explosives.

Letourneau was cited for criminal threatening and is due in court on Tuesday.
