Green Mountain Transit begins first wave of service cuts

BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – Green Mountain Transit on Thursday began its first round of planned service and route reductions.

GMT, which is trying to overcome a $3 million budget deficit, announced the cuts back in August. Officials say they’re a result of rising operational costs and reduced revenue streams following the pandemic,

Initially, eight routes in the Burlington area will be affected, and the Jeffersonville Commuter will no longer operate.

Further cuts were approved for March, including changes to the Montpelier Link schedule.
