BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – A red flag warning remains in place for parts of southern Vermont and New Hampshire this weekend.
It comes after wildfires this week near Brattleboro and in parts of southern New York.
Breezy winds, low humidity, and drought conditions across the state make flames even more dangerous. The National Weather Service says there’s also extremely dry leaf litter across forest floors and even a small spark can ignite a fire.
“That includes chainsawing around rocks that can throw a spark. Out west people have seen instances where someone forgot to stow their trailer chains and we had fires start in the grass,” said Marvin Boyd with the NWS in Burlington.
