HANOVER, N.H. (WCAX) – WIth only a few days before a consequential election, former Vice President Mike Pence visited Dartmouth College Thursday to talk about the future of American democracy.
Mike Pence did not give any presidential endorsements during his appearance at the Hanover In as part of Dartmouth’s 2024 Election Series.
Pence and former President Donald Trump parted ways after the January 6th attack on the Capitol. He certified the 2020 election results declaring Joe Biden the winner, but he was seen by some on the far right as a traitor. Others, however, have called him a patriot for putting country over party.
Pence told the audience in Hanover why he does not think Trump is fit to serve another term as president and he offered advice to younger generations to “speak your dreams…” “…and show up, and I’ll tell you what — be ready because I gotta tell you that Dartmouth students incredible caliber of the students in this room, families you all represent, I guarantee you, you start showing up, people are gonna put you to work and they’re gonna have a lot of ideas on how you’re gonna serve the country,” he said.
When it comes to a possible endorsement of the Harris-Walz ticket, Pence says he’s staying out of the race and fundamentally doesn’t agree with their policies.
Pence mounted a very short-lived presidential run this election cycle but dropped out very early on, so his endorsement would likely not sway voters either way. And with the election just a few days away, most voters have made up their minds. Kamala Harris has consistently led in the polls here in the Granite State, however, it will be independent voters, New Hampshire’s largest voting block. who will ultimately help decide which candidate comes out on top.
