Former patient leaves big gift to Dartmouth Health Advanced Response Team

LEBANON, N.H. (WCAX) – Dartmouth Health has received a huge gift from the estate of a former patient. New Hampshire resident Les Haynes left the Dartmouth Health Advanced Response Team$6.7 million.

The money will go toward the expansion of DHART. DHART helps get people in our region to emergency medical care, and Haynes credited DHART with saving his life more than once.

The generous donation came as a big surprise to Dartmouth Health.

“Yeah, it was a huge surprise. I had no idea it was coming,” said Mike Mulhern, DHART’s director. “Our plan is to use it to help to develop the rural region of Vermont and New Hampshire’s access to Dartmouth health care. So a lot of what we’re doing is going to focus on the ability for patients to access health care through ambulances and the ability to get to appointments, as well as transport to academic medical centers and, you know, everywhere they need to go.”

DHART is looking at data to determine the best places to add ambulances to help reach patients in remote areas quickly.
