FRANCONIA, N.H. (WCAX) – Foliage season is bringing congestion to visitor hot spots in Franconia Notch.
With trailheads packed with leaf peepers, there are growing concerns about traffic safety. Franconia State Park officials say discussions continue over ways to better manage the large crowds.
“There have been a number of considerations here at Franconia Notch State Park that have been discussed in recent years, including paid parking fees. Certainly, there’s been the discussion of timed entry. Some of this discussion has actually risen to the level of the legislature,” the park’s Jace Wirth.
Park officials say they’re using shuttle busses and staffing congested areas to ease traffic problems. Staff also reported picking up a lot of trash in the area.
