Burlington man sentenced to 5 years for gun violation

BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – A Burlington man has been sentenced to five years in prison stemming from a weapons violation.

Federal authorities say Hasan Williams, 27, previously pleaded guilty to possessing a loaded handgun in a 2016 assault and robbery and was not allowed to have a gun.

Court documents say in August of last year, Burlington Police responded to a call of a possible assault at Einstein’s Tap House and encountered Williams, who refused to comply with instructions and punched an officer in the face. Police say they later found a loaded gun in his bag. They also determined he had sexually assaulted a woman inside the bar, which had led to the assault on a bar employee.

Williams was sentenced Monday to 60 months in prison.
