HYDE PARK, Vt. (WCAX) – A Vermont man pleaded not guilty on Friday to murdering his estranged wife more than three decades ago.
Carroll Peters, 70, of Morrisville, was arrested Thursday in the 1993 slaying of Cheryl Peters, after a Vermont grand jury returned an indictment for first-degree murder.
Cheryl Peters, 42, was found shot to death in her Morrisville home on Sept. 2, 1993.
Police identified Carroll Peters as a suspect in the case from the beginning, but he publicly denied any part in the crime. He was never charged and no suspect was ever arrested until now.
In court Friday, Carroll Peters was ordered held without bail. He’s due back in court next week for a weight of evidence hearing.
