Vt. woman charged with DUI crash that killed son due back in court

WHITE RIVER JCT., Vt. (WCAX) – An Essex Town woman accused of killing her 11-year-old son in a DUI crash is expected to change her plea.

Police say Dawn Baustert, 47, veered into a ledge on I-89 in Sharon in November of 2022. Baustert’s husband and two children were in the car. Her son, 11-year-old Silas, died. According to court documents, a blood draw at the hospital after the crash showed Baustert’s blood alcohol content was .228.

She pleaded not guilty last year but is expected in Windsor County Court on Thursday afternoon.
