Vermont delegates at Democratic National Convention to cast votes

BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – The Democratic National Convention is set to kick off in Chicago on Monday, and Vermont’s delegates are there to cast their votes.

President Joe Biden will deliver the keynote speech Monday night, but the rest of the week will be focused on the future with Vice President Kamala Harris at the top of the ticket.

Vermont’s delegates are at the DNC to cast their votes for Harris and her running mate, Tim Walz.

Molly Moore of East Haven is one of the delegates chosen from across Vermont.

Moore joined us Monday morning to shed some light on the duties of delegates at the convention.

“So, what we’ll do today is ceremoniously do the role call and have Kamala accept the role call. Basically, our duties beyond that, we participate in caucuses and councils. I’m part of the women’s caucus and rural council. We’ll talk about issues and how we want to build our platform,” Moore said.

Beyond the official duties as delegates, there are numerous floor speeches to see from the likes of President Biden and former President Barack Obama.

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul is among those set to take the stage at the Democratic National Convention on Monday.

The Democratic National Convention comes just four weeks after President Joe Biden shuttered his campaign and made way for Vice President Kamala Harris to ascend to the top of the Democrats’ ticket. The four-day gathering of thousands of activists and party leaders from across the nation is designed to celebrate and strengthen Harris as President Joe Biden’s replacement and boost her campaign to defeat Republican Donald Trump in November.

Our Calvin Cutler is in Chicago for the DNC. On the Channel 3 News at 6 p.m., he will review Chicago’s chaotic political history and examine comparisons between this year’s convention and the ill-fated DNC of 1968.
