Lake Placid Airport receives repair funding

LAKE PLACID, N.Y. (WCAX) – Repair money is touching down in the North Country to help fix up the Lake Placid Airport.

New York senators announced that over $1.8 million in federal funding will go towards repairs at the airport. The money from the Airport Improvement Program is earmarked for fixing cracks in the runway pavement.

Depending on construction costs, town officials in North Elba — who oversee the airport — say the money will largely pay for a rebuild of the main runway or make upgrades to the airport’s apron area.

“Our runway is certainly not in a dangerous state but there are serious cracks and crevices that need attention and this project will allow us to put that major runway in great shape for years to come,” said North Elba Town Supervisor Derek Doty.

Work is expected to start next June and go until early fall.
