BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – Annual rabies vaccine bait drops start on Wednesday and run through August 22.
The goal of the program is to prevent the spread of rabies in Vermont’s wildlife.
The vaccine is in the form of sweet-smelling bait which is attractive to skunks and raccoons.
It will be placed in residential areas as well as dropped from low-flying planes in more rural areas.
So far this year, 44 animals in Vermont have tested positive for rabies, which is 20 more positive cases than this time last year.
