BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – Mount Philo, Vermont’s first and oldest state park is celebrating a century.
The 237-acre park in Charlotte became the first Vermont State Park in 1924. With views of the Lake Champlain Valley and New York’s Adirondack Mountains, the park is a favorite of hikers and picnickers, and includes a small campground.
Cat Viglienzoni spoke with Judy Chaves, who published “Secrets of Mount Philo: A guide to the history of Vermont’s first state park” through the Vermont Historical Society,
You can help Celebrate Mount Philo’s 100th Birthday with Chaves at the Charlotte Library on June 18th, at 7:00 pm. She will also lead a guided hike on July 9.
