Vt. Statehouse HVAC renovations underway

MONTPELIER, Vt. (WCAX) – New ventilation and air conditioning is coming to the Vermont Statehouse.

The current HVAC systems are from the 1970s and no longer meet modern airflow codes.

The project is part of a longer-term effort to upgrade the Statehouse’s HVAC systems following several summers where the 165-year-old capitol was found covered in mold.

Crews are now installing temporary air units in the building. Buildings and General Services says the Statehouse currently has 34 temporary dehumidifiers scattered across the building.

The work can only be done in the summer when lawmakers are out of the building. Work crews are already ahead of schedule in the three-year-long $11.2 million project.
