Runners toe the line for 41st Vt. Corporate Cup

MONTPELIER, Vt. (WCAX) – Upwards of 2,200 runners and walkers took part Thursday in the 41st running of the Vermont Corporate Cup.

The Montpellier event began in 1980 as a 10K with teams from different state agencies competing for bragging rights and to promote fitness. Today the 5K is also open to teams from other businesses and nonprofits. Officials say the event attracted upwards of 4,000 participants prior to the pandemic. This year’s event has about 2,400 participants registered, including virtual runners and walkers.

This event is meant to encourage workplaces to push their employees toward an active lifestyle. It also serves as one of the biggest fundraisers for the Vermont Governor’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports.

The race gets underway at 6 p.m. State Street in front of the Statehouse will be closed and other streets will have reduced access.
