Child hit by school bus in Waterbury

WATERBURY, Vt. (WCAX) – A child in Waterbury was sent to the hospital Wednesday morning after being hit by a school bus.

It happened on Blush Hill Road just after 8 a.m. Vermont State Police say the bus was slowing down to make a stop when a 12-year-old ran in front and was hit. Police say the bus was going about 5 mph at the time of the accident.

The child was taken to Central Vermont Medical Center with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Police say neither speed nor impairment is believed to be a factor in the crash.

Police say 11 other students at the stop were transferred to another school bus.

The road was completely closed for about 2.5 hours.
