New mentorship program aims to address youth mental health needs

BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – A new program aims to mentor Vermont youth, addressing lingering mental health challenges following the pandemic.

Mentor Vermont has launched its Youth Mentoring Mental Health Support Pilot Program. Officials say the program will provide year-round support for youth and mentors, avoiding the significant gaps in many school-based programs that are often closed down during the summer months and school breaks.

Kiana Burks spoke with Jen Colman, a Burlington-based psychotherapist who will be coaching the mentors in the program.
