Burlington officials kick off next phase of airport construction

BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – Burlington officials on Wednesday kicked off the next phase of ongoing construction efforts at the airport.

The $34 million project is focused on renovating the North Terminal Building with new gates, jet bridges, and baggage claim spaces. It’s a federally funded upgrade thanks to money secured by the airport’s new namesake, former Senator Patrick Leahy.

Burlington Mayor Miro Weinberger says it’s just the latest phase of bigger expansions at the airport. “The goals of this project are to enhance operational efficiency for the airport team and our airline partners and to improve the traveler experience with more room and numerous new amenities,” he said.

Some of the expansion has already been completed, including extra seating where the old security area used to be.
