Essex County voters shoot down Boquet Valley Central School District spending proposal

WESTPORT N.Y. (WCAX) – Voters in Essex County, New York have voted against a $65 million spending proposal that would have funded the construction of a new K-12 school.

This new school would have replaced two buildings in Westport and Elizabethtown, which school district officials say are in disrepair.

The final vote count was 372 in favor and 1008 against.

“We want to thank the community for their active participation and strong numbers at the polls. Your engagement in this process is a testament to our shared commitment to our schools… While this result may be disappointing for many, we remain committed to providing the best possible facilities solution for our students and will continue to explore options for meeting our district’s needs,” said BVCSD Superintendent Joshua Mayor following the vote.
