Shiffrin being checked for leg injury after crash on course in Italy

CORTINA D’AMPEZZO, Italy (WCAX) – Skiing superstar and Burke Mountain Academy graduate Mikaela Shiffrin was taken to the hospital to be checked for a leg injury on Friday after crashing during a competition in Italy.

It happened at the FIS Alpine Ski World Cup in Cortina d’Ampezzo on the course for the 2026 Milan-Cortina Olympics.

Shiffrin was midway through her run when she lost control while landing a jump and crashed into the safety nets around the slope.

She was helped off the course with her left boot raised off the snow.

The US Ski and Snowboard team wrote on social media that Shiffrin was “taken by ambulance to the clinic in Cortina and is being evaluated for a left leg injury,” and that the “initial analysis shows the ACL and PCL seem intact.”

Shiffrin is the most successful skier of all time with a record 95 World Cup wins.
