Bennington man charged with possession of a bomb

BENNINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – A Vermont man has been charged with possessing a bomb.

Officials from the U.S. State’s Attorney’s Office say Tyler Hayes, 41, of Bennington, knowingly possessed an unregistered bomb.

According to court documents, Hayes made the bomb himself and even told people he knew about the destruction it could cause if it was set off.

Officials say Hayes left the bomb in his former home after being evicted and took no precautions to make sure the bomb did not fall into the wrong hands or accidentally detonate.

Hayes was indicted by a grand jury and pleaded not guilty in federal court on Monday. If convicted, he faces up to 10 years in prison and fines of up to $10,000.
