PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (WCAX) – A torchbearer from the 1980 Winter Olympics spoke with college students in Plattsburgh Monday to mark the 45th anniversary of their historic run.
North Country native Carol Arnold was part of the relay team that ran from Virginia to Lake Placid in 1980 representing the state of Delaware.
She told students at Clinton County Community College how the team ran for 24 hours on the first day of the relay and how it was the honor of a lifetime.
“My parents instilled in us the importance of sport and the Olympics and Lake Placid had hosted and now we had them again and it was just such an honor to be a part of that,” Arnold said
The games kicked off in Lake Placid on February 13th, 1980.
