Woman connected to border agent shooting pleads not guilty to gun charges

BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – The woman connected to the death of a U.S. Border Patrol agent in Vermont on Friday denied federal gun charges.

Teresa Youngblut, 21, pleaded not guilty to two gun charges.

The charges are in connection with the fatal shooting of Border Patrol Agent David “Chris” Maland, though she has not been charged with his murder. We aren’t yet sure why.

Youngblut remains in federal custody.

Maland was shot and killed last month during a traffic stop on Interstate 91 in Coventry.

Youngblut, an American student from the state of Washington, was behind the wheel of the car that was pulled over. Felix Bauckholt, a German citizen, was with her.

Bauckholt and Maland were both killed in the shootout and Youngblut was injured.
