Sen. Welch opposes Attorney General nomination

BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – A new Attorney General is already taking action, but Vermont senators say she shouldn’t be in office.

The Senate confirmed Pam Bondi’s nomination for Attorney General in a nearly partisan vote Tuesday.

During confirmation hearings, Bondi said she wouldn’t politicize her role as the head of the justice department.

A statement Senator Peter Welch disagreed with, saying Bondi would be unwilling to stand up to Donald Trump and keep the Department of Justice independent.

“I don’t think President Trump ever in the world would place a value on having an Attorney General who’s willing to tell him Mr President no you can’t get appointed unless you pass the test…their inability to answer the basic question who won the 2020 election,” said Sen. Welch.

Both Welch and Senator Bernie Sanders voted against her approval.

Since her swearing-in on Wednesday, Bondi ordered a review of federal prosecutions against President Trump.
