Advocacy group criticizes Connecticut River water quality policy

BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – Advocates are raising red flags about water quality policies for dams on Vermont’s longest border.

On Thursday, the state wants to know what you think.

The Vermont Department of Environmental Conservation is releasing its water quality certifications for three dams along the Connecticut River.

Those dams are in Wilder, Bellows Falls, and Vernon are owned by Great River Hydro.

Advocacy group Connecticut River Conservancy says the licensing process for these dams will last for 40 years and doesn’t go far enough to protect the river.

You can read a draft of the DEC report and put in your two cents here.

Thursday is the last day to comment on the Wilder Dam.
