PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (WCAX) – New York Democrats have picked their candidate to run for a special election to fill Rep. Elise Stefanik’s seat.
The party will nominate Blake Gendebien, a longtime North Country resident and farm owner to run for the District 21 seat. They say if elected, he will fight to lower costs and secure the borders.
Planning for that special election can only happen if and when Stefanik is confirmed by the U.S. Senate for the post of U.N. ambassador.
The GOP, which has not selected a nominee, wasted no time Tuesday in panning Democrats’ pick. “Democrats didn’t do their homework when they selected Blake Gendebien… Republicans will easily hold this seat in the upcoming special election because the North Country is unquestionably Trump country,” New York GOP Chair Ed Cox said in a statement.
