BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – The woman charged in connection with the deadly shooting of a U.S. Border Patrol agent in Vermont will continue to be held in federal prison.
Teresa Youngblut, 21, faced a federal judge in Burlington on Thursday. Cameras are not allowed in federal court.
Prosecutors said Youngblut is a risk to the public and a risk to flee, and the judge agreed.
Her defense did not argue for her to be released while she awaits trial.
Youngblut faces two gun charges in connection with the fatal shooting of Agent David “Chris” Maland, but she has not been charged with murder.
Maland was shot and killed last week during a traffic stop on Interstate 91 in Coventry.
Youngblut, an American student from the state of Washington was behind the wheel of the car that was pulled over. Felix Bauckholt, a German citizen, was with her.
Bauckholt and Maland were both killed in the shootout and Youngblut was injured.
WCAX News has learned the name of a third person involved in the case, though her connection remains unclear at this point. The feds have been looking for Michelle Jacqueline Zajko, and they have been asking gun dealers for help finding her. Investigators told us she was not at the scene of the deadly shootout.
