MONTPELIER, Vt. (WCAX) – Plans are in the works to rehabilitate the Waterbury Dam.
Vermont’s Dam Safety Program has announced its $80 million plan to make the dam’s existing floodgates more operable and repair damaged concrete.
The dam, which holds back the 850-acre Waterbury Reservoir, was completed in 1938 as a flood control measure following the flood of 1927. Since 1981, concerns over its safety have led to several extensive repairs.
The state will collaborate with the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers on the project which is set to begin construction in 2027.
