BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – The Burlington Police Department is expanding its team.
The department held a swearing-in ceremony this afternoon highlighting their new employees.
10 are stepping into administrative and support staff positions, like community resource officers, liaisons, and dispatchers.
They also recognized one new police recruit who will be starting at the academy.
Burlington Police Chief Jon Murad says these new staff members are a part of their larger effort to improve the department.
“We don’t just want to rebuild, we want to build back better. And that means new people, good people, committed people, people who are ready to serve,” said Chief Murad.
Police recruits alone won’t help rebuild the force. Burlington’s most recent academy classes have only led to a few officers joining the ranks.
