Burlington considers cat licensing policy

BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – Burlington officials are recommending changes that could cost cat owners.

The Dog Task Force is pushing for changes to the city’s identification licensure and regulation ordinances for cats that would essentially add cats to some nuisance pet behavior policies, such as attacking other animals including wildlife, roaming and defecating off the guardian’s premises.

It would also require cats to wear a collar with identification and the owner’s contact information.

If you’d like to weigh in, a public meeting will be held at the Contois Auditorium at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
