Deadline approaching to remove waterfowl blinds from Lake Champlain

MONTPELIER, Vt. (WCAX) – An important deadline is approaching for waterfowl hunters on Lake Champlain.

Vermont Fish and Wildlife says hunting blinds must be removed from the lake by Feb. 15.

For inland water, that deadline is May 15.

Hunters must also remove surrounding debris to protect wildlife and prevent boating accidents after the ice melts.

“Removal of the blinds and any posts that may be below the surface of the ice is important because of the danger they present when boaters are on the water in the spring,” State Game Warden Col. Justin Stedman said in a news release.

Stedman says wardens record the names and addresses of blind owners and will follow up with inspections.
