Vt. delegation responds to Middle East cease-fire deal

WASHINGTON (WCAX) – Vermont’s congressional delegation is speaking out about a cease-fire deal announced Tuesday between Israel and Hamas.

The deal promises the release of dozens of hostages held by Hamas and hundreds of Palestinian prisoners in Israel. It will also allow hundreds of thousands of people displaced by the 15-month war to return to their homes and allow humanitarian aid into a territory.

“Both sides must honor the deal and implement it as quickly as possible. The senseless killing must stop. This is just the first step to restoring peace,” Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders said in a statement.

“The United States must remain committed to a lasting two-state solution for peace because the Israeli people will only be truly secure by upholding the inherent rights and dignity of the Palestinian people—side by side,” Vermont Senator Peter Welch said in a statement.
