MONTPELIER, Vt. (WCAX) – With the legislative session now in its second week, Democratic leaders are detailing plans on how to make improve public education and make it more affordable.
In a statement, Democratic leaders say they agree with Governor Phil Scott’s inaugural message that the $2.3 billion the state is spending to educate 83,000 students is not sustainable and more money won’t fix the problem.
“Although the conversations may be hard, we all share the same goals – making sure Vermont kids have what they need to be successful and a right-sized education system for our current and projected future student population. As we begin the session we will work with teachers, families, and school staff to strengthen our schools,” the statement said.
They plan to outline their plan at a 12:30 p.m. briefing on Tuesday at the Statehouse.
