Brattleboro Fire Chief retires

BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – Brattleboro’s Fire Chief is hanging up his hat.

Chief Leonard Howard III retires on Tuesday.

He joined the force in 1987 as a volunteer and has been Chief since 2021.

Chief Howard is credited with helping develop a registry for rental inspections and led the department through a transition to a new model of delivering emergency services.

In a press release, the Chief reflected fondly on his decades working at the fire department.

Recruitment for his successor is underway.
