BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – An independent representative from Dover has officially added her name to the list for Speaker of the House.
Laura Sibilia made her candidacy official by notifying the Secretary of State that she’s running to lead the House.
Sibilia runs against incumbent house speaker Jill Krowinski who has served as speaker since 2017 and won the support of the Democratic caucus earlier this month.
Sibilia says she is running in response to the double-digit education property tax hike.
The house will vote for Speaker on the first day of the session on January 8.
