Crews respond to 4 water main breaks in Montpelier

MONTPELIER, Vt. (WCAX) – Water main breaks kept public works crews in Montpelier busy over the holiday week.

Crews have responded to four water main breaks from frozen pipes in the last few days.

Three were serving private residences and one was serving state buildings on Baldwin Street.

Officials say they prepare for and budget for the breaks in the aging infrastructure annually, and that they try to stay on top of their pipe plan to replace infrastructure before it breaks.

“We annually replace so many feet of water main, that’s our target. Hopefully, we get more than that done on an annual basis, but we have a good strategy and a good plan to replace so many feet per year,” said Zach Blodgett, the deputy director of Montpelier Public Works.

Officials say there is still one home without water as a result of the breaks.

Anyone with remaining issues should contact Montpelier Public Works.
