Winooski Main Street Vitalization project on hold till spring

WINOOSKI, Vt. (WCAX) – Construction on Winooski’s Main Street Vitalization project is on hiatus until spring.

Winooski officials on Tuesday said that means two-way traffic on Main Street is being restored and there will be no more detour.

The $28 million project got underway and includes improvements to make more room for bikers and walkers, landscaping, new stormwater infrastructure, and burying powerlines

Officials say they have already replaced a majority of the 100-year-old water and sewer lines and were starting to reconstruct Main Street between the railroad bridge near Maple Street and Spring Street.

It hasn’t always been smooth sailing, with some businesses along the corridor saying the noise and construction have driven away customers.

Major construction begins again in the spring.
