Malfunctioning motor causes fire scare in downtown Burlington

BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – Queen City fire fighters were called to Consolidated Communications on Main Street Tuesday night after afire alarm was activated.

They were met with a strong smell of burning and smoke in the building, but they couldn’t find the cause and believed they were dealing with a structure fire.

While searching for the source, crews found that a motor in the basement had malfunctioned, producing smoke that was then being ventilated from the building by the HVAC system.

The building ended up having no fire, smoke, or water damage, and employees were allowed to return to work.
