Robotic technology helping UVM Medical Center patients relearn how to walk

BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – Innovative technology at the UVM Medical Center in Burlington is helping people relearn how to walk.

Between robots and renovations, the hospital’s mobility gym is helping people make big strides– literally.

The robots– high-tech harnesses suspended from the ceiling above specialty treadmills– dramatically change the approach to treatment. Patients are strapped in and the robot weighs them in real time to support their balance.

The hospital says the technology keeps patients and therapists safer and is especially helpful for patients recovering from stroke or traumatic brain injuries.
