NY agriculture officials warn of spread of spotted lanternflies

ALBANY, N.Y. (WCAX) – The New York Department of Agriculture is asking residents to keep an eye out for an invasive pest.

Monday, the department announced new research on spotted lanternflies that found the pest in more locations across the state.

The invasive insects feed on plants that are critical to New York’s agricultural economy, like crops.

Now, the department is urging residents of upstate counties to scrape away egg masses and report any sightings. Click here for more information.
