BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – A proposed ordinance to stop graffiti in the Queen City has passed with one exception.
When it was introduced last month, the ordinance aimed at vandalism in Burlington with measures like an online reporting system and increased enforcement.
Another part of the measure allowed people who feel there has been public hate speech made against them to sue the person responsible.
While Burlington lawyers said that measure was defensible in court, the American Civil Liberties Union raised concerns.
It passed at Monday night’s council meeting without the measure allowing personal suit.
