BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – Your mail may be getting a tour of New England before making it to your door – and leaders aren’t so happy about it.
The United States Postal Service proposed a plan to consolidate postal operations, which would take mail processing out of state.
The plan would move the White River Junction facility to Hartford, Connecticut, and the Manchester, New Hampshire facility to Boston.
In May, the postal service delayed the rollout pausing consolidation plans until January of next year.
New Hampshire Senator Maggie Hassan opposes the move.
“I continue to strongly oppose the plans especially in the absence of an independent review of the service impacts in New Hampshire,” said Hassan.
She says a similar program in Virginia and Georgia resulted in a significant decline in performance and struggles to keep delivery on time.
Hassan said she wants an independent review of how the consolidation would impact service in New Hampshire.
