Burlington police investigating shots, man who allegedly hit officer with car

BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – Police are investigating shots fired near the Burlington waterfront and again near downtown. Hours later, a man was arrested after police say he hit an officer with his car.

Police say just before 1 a.m. Monday, they heard gunshots near the waterfront.

Then at 3 a.m., they heard more shots near Buell and South Union streets. There, they found Thomas Savard, 40, who refused to get out of his car. Police say when they tried to physically get him out, he accelerated, hitting and injuring an officer and getting away.

They found and arrested him about two hours later.

Police do not know whether the two gunfire incidents are related or whether Savard was involved in either incident.
