BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – Whether your drive is snowy or smooth, officials want you to stay safe this holiday season.
So many people are driving to dinner this time of year and it can be a dangerous few days on the road.
If you think you’ve seen bad holiday traffic, this year will go the extra mile.
A record nearly 72 million people are expected to hit the road for the holiday, and the day before is one of the busiest travel days.
According to VTrans, 326 people died in traffic crashes over Thanksgiving weekend in 2022.
Of those, 43% weren’t wearing a seat belt.
Starting Wednesday, law enforcement will start their Buckle Up enforcement campaign to educate Vermonters on the importance of seatbelt use.
The partnership between the Vermont Agency of Transportation and state law enforcement runs through December 1.
Air traffic is also expected to soar to a new record this year.
As of Wednesday morning, all flights are on time in and out of the Burlington airport.
TSA expects to screen the most people Wednesday through Sunday, with Sunday expected to set an all-time record at around 3 million people.
