Micro Bird ramping up to hire, train workers at Plattsburgh plant

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (WCAX) – The Canadian school bus manufacturer moving into the Nova Bus factory in Plattsburgh says they hope to build upwards of 3,500 buses per year.

Micro Bird, a joint venture between Blue Bird Corporation and Girardin, announced Tuesday they will take over operations of the Nova Bus facility previously slated to close next year.

Micro Bird CEO Eric Boulé says they plan to build electric and gas buses and that the location will also include training opportunities for local students and others to get a foot in the door. “The next months is about planning, getting the site ready, transforming the site for the production of our products. Obviously, hiring selection, training, and onboarding all of our new colleagues in Plattsburgh and get ready for the start of production in 2025,” he said.

They plan to invest $38 million into capital expenses and training and create 350 full-time jobs.
